What is a Customs Broker?

Here at clearit.ca, we get the question “What is a customs broker?” all the time so we wanted to give you a brief overview of what a customs broker does:

Importers who do not wish to transact business with the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) directly may authorize a licensed customs broker to do so on their behalf. A customs broker is liscensed by CBSA to act on behalf of importers, primarily in assisting in the release and accounting of imported goods. It is important to work closely with your customs broker to ensure accuracy and compliance with CBSA regulations.

In most cases, a customs broker submits shipment information to CBSA through electronic communications and obtains release information.  At Clearit.ca we can obtain an electronic release at any border point in Canada!
