{"id":5419,"date":"2023-10-20T11:31:57","date_gmt":"2023-10-20T15:31:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/clearit.ca\/canadian-customs-broker-blog\/?p=5419"},"modified":"2023-10-20T11:31:59","modified_gmt":"2023-10-20T15:31:59","slug":"trucking-report-identifies-ways-to-improve-supply-chains-and-trade-across-canada","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/clearit.ca\/canadian-customs-broker-blog\/trucking-report-identifies-ways-to-improve-supply-chains-and-trade-across-canada\/","title":{"rendered":"Trucking report identifies ways to improve supply chains and trade across Canada"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A new report from the Canadian Trucking Alliance (CTA) has identified several issues relating to infrastructure and trucking industry regulations that, if improved, bolster the efficiency of Canadian inter-provincial supply chains and economic trade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some of the identified issues and recommendations of the report include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Improving winter road maintenance and ensuring that roads are cleared and maintained in a consistent and timely manner across all provinces and territories, and to the same constantly high standard.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Increasing the number and frequency of rest areas along major transportation corridors<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Twinning Highway 185 in Quebec to create a connected network of four-lane highways from Halifax to Toronto<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Further harmonizing LCV program requirements in Western Canada, which could include licensing and permitting<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Improving and modernizing the oversize\/overweight trucking sector (carriers that move objects like cranes, excavation equipment, wind turbine blades, etc.), such as standardization for minimum clearances and bridge heights to reduce impediments to movement<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Strengthening oversight and accountability for truck safety and accountability<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Facilitating more coordination and communication between different municipalities and jurisdictions regarding weight regulations and road bans to reduce logistical challenges<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Expanding the consistency and reliability of cellular and internet service across all freight corridors<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Increasing access to trade data<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Canadian Trucking Alliance Charman Greg Munden stated that \u201cthe issues identified in this report align with several of CTA\u2019s core policies in areas of driver safety, health and wellness; highway\/technology infrastructure maintenance and expansion \u2013 as well as strengthening efforts to combat non-compliance in the industry and level the competitive playing field for responsible trucking companies.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cantruck.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/INT-TRADE-BARRIERS-2023-ENFinal_public-1.pdf\">Read the full report, Interprovincial Trade Barriers in Trucking, here.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To stay informed on supply chain news and other important updates, <a href=\"https:\/\/clearit.ca\/clearance_step2\"><strong>PARTNER UP WITH A CUSTOMS BROKER HERE<\/strong><\/a><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A new report from the Canadian Trucking Alliance (CTA) has identified several issues relating to infrastructure and trucking industry regulations that, if improved, bolster the efficiency of Canadian inter-provincial supply chains and economic trade.
