As such, we\u2019ll be doing a quick overview of the document!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>We will also briefly touch on Canada\u2019s Interim Order Respecting the Importation and Sale of Medical Devices for Use in Relation to COVID-19. As the name suggests, it provides medical device manufacturers and importers with certain exemptions in order to increase the availability of these goods.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ve been covering a few different topics relating to the pandemic so far. You\u2019ll note that there are 8 different categories listed.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-4775\" src=\"https:\/\/clearit.ca\/canadian-customs-broker-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/\/2020\/04\/photo-of-person-wearing-face-mask-4066426-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"importing medical supplies\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" srcset=\"https:\/\/clearit.ca\/canadian-customs-broker-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/photo-of-person-wearing-face-mask-4066426-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/clearit.ca\/canadian-customs-broker-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/photo-of-person-wearing-face-mask-4066426-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><b><b>Test kits and other goods used for diagnostics: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">test kits, swabs, vials, etc.<\/span><\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Protective garments: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">masks, gloves, face shields, hair nets, etc.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Disinfectants and sterilization products: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">alcohol solution, hand sanitizer, disinfectants, etc.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Oxygen therapy equipment:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> medical ventilators, continuous air pressure units, etc.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Other medical devices: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CT scanners, ultrasound equipment, intubation kits, etc.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Other medical consumables: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">urine bags, lubricant jelly, paper bed sheets, etc.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Vehicles: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">wheelchairs, etc.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><b>Other: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">medical\/surgical furniture, medical gas cylinders, etc.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>WHO and WCO have stated that this document has been made to help importers navigate the customs system and move goods more quickly, however they do recommend contacting the country\u2019s customs authority (in Canada\u2019s case, CBSA) to ensure the correct documentation is prepared.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Read the reference document here: <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wcoomd.org\/-\/media\/wco\/public\/global\/pdf\/topics\/nomenclature\/covid_19\/hs-classification-reference_en.pdf?la=en\"><b>HS Classification Reference for COVID-19 Medical Supplies\u00a0<\/b><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Secondly, the <\/b><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/health-canada\/services\/drugs-health-products\/drug-products\/announcements\/interim-order-importation-sale-medical-devices-covid-19.html\"><b>Interim Order Respecting the Importation and Sale of Medical Devices for Use in Relation to COVID-19<\/b><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Health Canada has enacted an order in which they lay out a framework to allow expedited authorization for the sale and import of medical supplies, devices, and goods. \u201c&#8230;To deal with the current significant risk of COVID-19 to the health and safety of Canadians.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Authorization for import or sale under this order is only valid for the time the order is in effect. However, depending on Canada\u2019s need for supplies, the authorization may be subject to a renewal.<\/p>\n<p>The order provides a process for expedited authorization for 3 types of goods\/devices:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>COVID-19 medical devices that have not been licensed in Canada<\/strong><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>COVID-19-related uses for existing licensed devices<\/strong><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>COVID-19 medical devices that leverage the authorization of a device from a trusted foreign regulator<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Clearit has been partnering closely with our clients to ensure that they can continue to move goods into Canada throughout the crisis.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>This is certainly a difficult time for many businesses, so importing with increased caution is necessary.
