First, obtain a Business\/BN number from the <em>CRA<\/em> in order to open your <em>import\/export<\/em> account. This should be done at least a week before shipping off your goods to avoid delays at the border. You can file for an<strong> importer number<\/strong> yourself, or for a small fee, have a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.clearit.ca\/\">customs broker<\/a> do it for you. Remember to use your <i>legal<\/i> and <i>operating<\/i> name when filling your request for a <em>Business number<\/em>. The name must match on all documents <em>(invoices, Bill of lading<\/em>) or your goods may get held up at the <strong>border<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Exporting from Canada: The Checklist<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Have I obtained by<strong> business number<\/strong> from the CRA?<\/li>\n<li>Are the goods I am<strong> exporting<\/strong> legally allowed into the country of final destination?<\/li>\n<li>Have I calculated my final costs for<strong> export<\/strong>? (including service fees)<\/li>\n<li>Do the goods I am<strong> exporting<\/strong> require a permit?<\/li>\n<li>Do the goods I am<strong> exporting<\/strong> require an<em><strong> export declaration<\/strong><\/em>?
